Story
of
Identity
My
name
is
Sarah,
and
I
have
always
loved
it.
It's
simple,
easy
to
spell,
and
yet
it
holds
a
special
meaning
to
me.
My
parents
named
me
after
my
great-grandmother,
a
strong,
independent
woman
who
lived
through
wars,
economic
depressions
and
the
joys
and
sorrows
of
marriage
and
motherhood.
She
inspired
my
parents,
and
so
they
gave
me
a
name
that
would
be
a
reminder
of
the
past
and
a
hope
for
the
future.
But
my
name
has
not
always
been
easy.
When
I
was
a
child,
I
was
often
teased
and
taunted
for
having
a
"boring"
name,
especially
in
a
multicultural
environment
where
exotic-sounding
names
were
preferred.
I
remember
feeling
left
out
and
ashamed,
as
if
there
was
something
wrong
with
me.
It
wasn't
until
I
grew
older
that
I
realized
the
beauty
of
my
name:
it
was
a
part
of
who
I
was,
and
it
reflected
my
family's
history
and
values.
In
fact,
I
have
come
to
appreciate
the
power
of
names
in
general.
They
are
not
just
labels,
but
symbols
of
identity,
culture
and
personal
history.
They
can
tell
a
story
about
where
we
come
from,
our
beliefs
and
aspirations,
and
the
people
who
came
before
us.
They
can
also
connect
us
to
others
who
share
the
same
names,
and
create
a
sense
of
belonging
and
familiarity.
Today,
as
an
adult,
I
am
proud
of
my
name
and
what
it
represents.
It
reminds
me
of
my
past
and
my
heritage,
and
it
gives
me
a
sense
of
purpose
and
direction.
It
has
also
taught
me
to
respect
and
appreciate
the
diversity
of
names
and
cultures
around
me,
and
to
recognize
the
importance
of
personal
identity
and
respect
for
others.
In
the
end,
my
name
is
just
one
part
of
who
I
am,
but
it
is
an
important
part.
It
tells
the
world
who
I
am
and
where
I
come
from,
and
it
reminds
me
of
my
roots
and
my
family's
legacy.
So,
when
people
ask
me
"What's
in
a
name?"
I
smile
and
say,
"Everything."
